How hearing voices can work

Listed are a few of the ways that voices can be triggered and then heard.  When it occurs while awareness is faded in or out and that can be perceived as it happens, that's an indication of hypnosis.

  • A word, words, or sentence is heard nearby.  Could be from a person, in a song being heard.  At some point the unconscious part of the mind either on it's own or through suggestion will become aware of something to use as a starting point.  When that occurs:
    • The words that make up the starting point - as heard nearby - are hidden from awareness at the same time as they are made aware of a  false memory of the words being said by the voice.  From that point on the person will hear the voice but not remember that it coincided with something actually heard nearby.
      • This doesn't always occur smoothly.
        • The person may not be aware of a transition at all
        • The person may have the feeling a transition occurred
        • The person may have a feeling that something external triggered the voice but no awareness of a transition or feeling it occurred.
  • A person's own thoughts are the most common way of triggering a voice heard or setting a voice on a different monologue, dialogue, eetc.
    • Even awareness of a small part of a word can trigger the start of a voice
